When shopping for a new house, it’s important to think about the functionality of the home as much, if not more so, than its aesthetic. How many bedrooms are you looking for? Do you want a big yard? Is it important that your home is an open floor plan? Do you need the laundry room or kitchen to be right off the garage? These are all questions you will want to ask yourself before you begin your search for a new place to live.
How Many Bedrooms Do You Need & Are They Conveniently Located?
The most obvious question you’ll want to begin with is “how many bedrooms will you need in your new home?” Do you have young children who will need a room close to yours? If so, a home with a master suite located clear on the other end of the home probably isn’t the house you would want to be in.
Think about the functionality of each room and make sure that the space it provides is enough for what you will want to be able to use it for.
Are The Bathrooms Designed Well & Do They Have Several In The Home?
When buyers go to look at a home, one of their biggest complaints is that the house didn’t have enough bathrooms, or they weren’t in the best locations. Think about where the bathrooms are located in the home and make sure that you have enough so that your family members and guests aren’t waiting in line forever to use the restroom.
Children = Open Floor Plan
Although it is more common now to have an open floor plan in your home, some older homes don’t have this newer concept. If you are looking at more dated homes on the market, keep in mind how the functionality of the home may affect your family. Newer constructed homes usually always have open floor plans for families with children. This helps with the feng shui of each room and also helps keep every family member connected throughout the house.
Storage Space Is Key
When you have a larger family, you’ll want to make sure that your home has an adequate amount of storage space to store all kinds of different home goods. Does the home you are looking at have a big enough kitchen, garage, and several closets?
The Outdoor Area
Last but not least, you’ll want to consider the outdoor space. Are you wanting a space that isn’t too large and easy to maintain? Or are you going for a more peaceful, spaced-out area for your outdoor living? Do you like hosting events at your home? If so, considering the type of yard your new home will have may be something you add to your top priorities list for your new home. Get a home with a yard that is the appropriate size that you would like to maintain and feel as though is big enough for hosting the parties or events that you are looking forward to.
